A TALE OF THREE SCHOOL "MISFITS"
Or "WOULD MY CHILD BE HAPPIER AND ACHIEVE MORE IN A DIFFERENT TYPE OF SCHOOL?"
In 1996, a school was established on the outskirts of Rockhampton to cater specifically for any child who didn't necessarily fit the mould - that meant any child who would be unhappy or under-challenged in a traditional education system. Whilst the school accepts enrolments from any child, it is obvious that there are many children for whom this is their very best chance of a successful education - children such as Alastair, (who would have been bored to the point of hating school, in a traditional setting) - children such as Elliott, who was born with high intelligence, locked into an Asperges brain - and children such as Denise, born with horrific health problems which precluded attendance at a traditional class-based.
Below are stories of three of the original students from this school - now grownup, and getting on with their lives, lives which were enriched by their early schooling.
